Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den betting is illegal. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent spot, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of most borders.

The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel compound that contains a number of amenities on top of the casino, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
