Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino gambling is not legal. Eight gambling dens are situated in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime spot, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of many borders.
The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling den, features 150 one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that highlights numerous conveniences in addition to the gambling hall, which has 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight table games.
